A landmark in design, diplomacy, and sustainable innovation — and a signal of what’s next for Saudi Arabia’s creative and commercial future.
A Global Symbol of Innovation and Identity
Osaka / Riyadh, October 2025 — The Saudi Pavilion at Expo 2025 Osaka has once again captured global attention, securing multiple prestigious international awards for its design, creativity, and immersive storytelling.
Its latest recognition — the “Olympics of Experiential Design” Award from the Experiential Design Authority — honors the pavilion’s outstanding contribution to cultural narrative and design excellence within the World Expolympics program.
These accolades join an expanding list that already includes Best Large Pavilion, Best Exterior Architecture, and a Gold Award for Cultural Architecture – Interactive and Experiential Spaces at the New York Architectural Design Awards — establishing the Saudi Pavilion as one of the most celebrated showcases of Expo 2025 Osaka Kansai.
Design as Diplomacy
Spearheaded by the Saudi Architecture and Design Commission, under Dr. Sumayah Al-Solaiman, with project leadership from Fatima Al-Doukhi, and designed in partnership with global architecture firm Foster + Partners, the pavilion embodies the modern Saudi ethos: innovation rooted in authenticity.
Its design represents a harmonious dialogue between Saudi Arabia and Japan — two nations that prize tradition, precision, and respect for nature. Using low-carbon materials, passive cooling systems, and solar technologies, the pavilion redefines how sustainability and cultural identity can coexist through architecture.
Inclusive by design, it incorporates Braille signage, accessible pathways, and a multi-sensory visitor experience — ensuring the story of Saudi Arabia is open to all.
A Living Narrative of Vision 2030
More than a structure, the Saudi Pavilion tells a story — one of transformation, creativity, and connection. It brings Vision 2030 to life through immersive storytelling that celebrates the Kingdom’s natural beauty, emerging creative economy, and commitment to innovation.
Since opening in April 2025, the pavilion has welcomed over half a million visitors, hosted more than 175 events, and received 400+ global delegations — spanning cultural performances, investment showcases, and strategic business forums.
It has become a living microcosm of Saudi Arabia’s future: confident, collaborative, and globally connected.
Leadership Reflections
Dr. Ghazi Binzagr, Saudi Ambassador to Japan and General Commissioner of the Saudi Pavilion, reflected on the achievement:
“This recognition is not a destination but a renewal of purpose — a call to continue sharing Saudi Arabia’s story with the world through culture, design, and sustainability. Our goal is to connect and inspire — creating experiences that endure for generations.”
His words encapsulate the pavilion’s spirit — and the broader ambition behind Saudi Arabia’s cultural diplomacy on the global stage.
A Benchmark for Experiential Storytelling
The Experiential Design Authority’s jury — made up of 32 leading international architects, designers, and event specialists — praised the Saudi Pavilion as a benchmark for experiential storytelling.
Their evaluation focused on innovation, visitor engagement, and narrative impact, noting the pavilion’s ability to merge artistry and diplomacy in a way that few national exhibits have achieved.
In doing so, Saudi Arabia has not only set a new standard for Expo 2025 but also redefined how nations communicate vision through experience.
