From Osaka to Riyadh: The Countdown to Expo 2030 Begins

Osaka, Japan – October 2025
A new chapter in the story of World Expos has begun. As the lights dimmed over Expo 2025 Osaka, a brilliant new spotlight turned toward Riyadh — the next host of the World Expo in 2030 — with a spectacular showcase titled “From Osaka to Riyadh.”

Held at the Expo Arena Matsuri, the event drew more than 15,000 spectators and brought together top Saudi and Japanese performers in a powerful fusion of culture, technology, and collaboration. High-energy sets, reimagined cultural performances, and striking laser, hologram, and light effects turned the arena into a vivid expression of two nations united by creativity and shared vision.

A Celebration of Collaboration

Headlined by Saudi vocalist Ghada Sheri, the Al Bairaq Al Akhdar drumming ensemble, Japan’s Taiko-Center drummers, and globally renowned DJs Ken Ishii and DJ KAORI, the performance symbolized the bridge between heritage and innovation. The result was not just a concert — it was a manifesto of partnership, celebrating the artistic and technological ambitions of both nations as they look ahead to the next era of global connection.

As one of the final highlights before Osaka’s closing ceremony on October 13, the event also marked the formal handover of the Bureau International des Expositions (BIE) flag, officially passing host city responsibilities from Japan to Saudi Arabia. This symbolic moment formally set Riyadh on the global stage as the next World Expo destination.

Expo 2030 Riyadh: A Vision of Foresight

Running from October 1, 2030, to March 31, 2031, Expo 2030 Riyadh will welcome more than 42 million visits from 197 nations and 29 international organizations. Spanning an impressive 6 million square meters, the site will feature five thematic zones, each exploring forward-looking solutions for a sustainable and inclusive future under the theme:

“The Era of Change: Together for a Foresighted Tomorrow.”

More than an exhibition, Expo 2030 Riyadh will serve as a global platform for innovation, diplomacy, and impact, connecting the world’s most visionary thinkers, companies, and creators to shape the next chapter of human progress. Following the six-month event, the site will evolve into a permanent Global Village — a living legacy of the Kingdom’s commitment to cultural exchange and knowledge economy growth.

Innovation with Empathy

Parallel to the showcase, the Saudi Pavilion at Expo 2025 Osaka Kansai introduced another dimension of innovation — human empathy powered by technology. In collaboration with King Abdullah University of Science and Technology (KAUST), Tokotoko Earth, and iPresence, the Pavilion hosted a robot developed by Temi Robotics, enabling Japanese families with children with disabilities to experience the Pavilion’s immersive storytelling through a live virtual tour.
Saudi Ambassador to Japan and Pavilion Commissioner Dr. Ghazi Binzagr called it “a powerful example of how empathy and innovation can work hand in hand.”

The Road Ahead — and Why It Matters

For Saudi Arabia, the transition from Osaka to Riyadh is more than symbolic — it marks the Kingdom’s emergence as a new global center of creativity, commerce, and collaboration. For investors, family offices, and private-sector leaders, Expo 2030 represents a once-in-a-generation opportunity to help shape the future of sustainable cities, digital economies, and human connection.

At Nuwa Partners, we believe this moment embodies the very spirit of our mission:

To connect global expertise with Saudi ambition, and transform opportunity into legacy.

As the countdown begins, the stage is set. The world’s attention turns to Riyadh — and with it, a new era of vision, investment, and impact begins.
